They thought their nightmare was over, but Thea, Coen, and Nova’s rescue was only the beginning. After being imprisoned on a ship they thought was their ticket to safety, it’s clear that the threat they left behind isn’t as distant as they’d hoped—and this time the entire galaxy is at risk.
Now that threat is about to be unleashed as an act of political warfare. To prevent an interstellar catastrophe, the survivors must harness the evil they faced on the planet Achlys and learn to wield the only weapon they have left: themselves.

If you’ve read my prior post on Contagion, you’ll know that I fell in love with Bowman’s characters, story, and world that she’s created in this series so far. And Immunity is included it that.
Immunity continues right where Contagion ended. Coen and Thea are fighting for their lives, Nova is in a coma, the people they love think they’re dead, and they’re in the hands of the people they wanted to be saved by the least. The military vessel that they’ve been captured by has caught wind of the contagion and they want to duplicate it to create their own troops to break free from the Union. To do so, they test Coen and Thea to find out the extent of their abilities as hosts. The ship they’re on isn’t able to handle more extreme tests, so the ship heads out to an outlier space station. After creating an escape plan, they’re almost able to pull it off with the help of Nova and Amber, a medical intern, but Thea gets left behind. The trio aim for help and Thea aims for survival. What comes next is a story that I wasn’t expecting full of twists, turns, and again, a book I couldn’t put down until I finished the last page.
Bowman, again, has written a story full of intrigue and action that will leave you wanting more. This world that she’s created has expanded and I loved getting to see more of the planets that she’s created in this system. I also loved the forewarning about something that we get at the end of the book… I’m not expanding on this, but I CALLED IT.
I also really liked some of the characters that were added. I really liked addition of Amber. She’s a medical “intern” but her father is the one that brought her along. She’s strung in between what she knows is right and also making sure that it doesn’t seem like she’s with the Union because her dad’s a Radical. She’s in a tough place, but she takes it all in stride. Our other main three (Coen, Thea, and Nova) are so much more in focus in this book. I loved getting to more of them and the development of each of their story lines. In Contagion, we just got a basic introduction to each one as we also had so many other voices from the other members of the Olympia team. Here, the view is almost solely on them.
I actually feel like I’m not explaining my love for this series in a way that’s understandble, but y’all. This book series is amazing. Immunity is such a well done sequel and Bowman deserves all the praise. Immunity is a great second book and I can’t believe there’s not another one (that I know of). This book is full of the same horror, science fiction, risky, intriguing, edge-of-your-seat, hoping-they-live read. I actually can’t recommend it enough.
